DEBORAH BECK - Biography

 

Philosophy - "My paintings and monootypes express my fascination with the mysteries, rhythms, and energies of the natural world around and within us, capturing with immediacy particular moments and experiences"  states Deborah Beck.  Gifted in her ability to express a wide range of poetic images and feelings from deep and mysterious, to serene, to light and whimsical, to bold, lush, vibrant, and pulsating.  In her paintings she works in oil, gouache, or watercolor, and in her prints she uses both oil and water-based inks, to suit the desired mood.   Her technique combines the best features of abstraction with organic representational imagery.  More recently she has also  been enjoying the freshness and challenge of  plein aire painting, as well as  exploring the color, light and forms of still life painting,  where  creations of man and nature may intersect and interact.  


Experiences and Accolades - Deborah earned a BA with Honors in Fine Arts from Brandeis University, receiving a special departmental first prize award in painting.  She went on to complete her MA in Art Education from New York University, then continued her art studies at the Art Students League, Parsons School of Design, and the School of Visual Arts, as well as at numerous workshops.  Believing in the transformative power of art in peoples' lives, Beck taught art and drug prevention education in the public schools for many years, and continues to  conduct  art workshops and residencies in a variety of educational settings for both children and adults, as a teaching artist.  She is an active member of such prestigious art organizations as National Association of Women Artists,  Pen and Brush Club, Women in the Arts Foundation, Katonah Museum Artists' Association, and New York Artists Equity Association.  The artist has exhibited extensively in both solo and group shows in museums and galleries, including at the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie, NY, and at the Horticultural  Society of New York.


An inveterate world traveller, Deborah has been inspired by her numerous global voyages.   These rich experiences, combined with a love of nature. give Deborah Beck constant renewal, taking her art to new heights.
